The Co-op Wants Your Leadership!

The Co-op is currently looking interested owners to run for the Board of Directors. If you’ve been looking for a chance to take a leadership role in the Chico Natural Foods Cooperative.

The Board of Directors is the Democratically Elected Leadership of the Co-op.

Board members oversee the work of the General Manager, attend monthly meetings, and correspond with each other to keep updated on the status of the Co-op and to make long-term plans for the organization. A more full description of Director duties can be found here. Members of the Board of Directors receive a 15% discount on all purchases at the Co-op, excluding alcohol.

The Board Election Takes Place in April.

Applications are due by the end of March, and the election itself takes place in the second half of April.

Only Co-op Owners Can Run for the Board

Candidates must be CNFC member-owners for 6 months prior to the election and be in good standing. 
Board members should be able to make a commitment of 10 hours per month for Board service.

2020 Annual Meeting

A Message from Board President, Michael Lee.

I’d like to thank everyone for attending our annual owner meeting on October 9, 2020. We appreciate you for taking the time on a Friday evening to be with us (virtually).

Our meeting consisted of reports from me (President), our General Manager, our Human Resources / Finance Director, and our Brand Manager. In addition to these reports were four employee videos, with delightful perspectives of their work at the Co-op.

The reports given included updates about:

·         The effects of COVID-19 and how the Co-op has adapted to keep employees, customers, and our community safe.

·         Equity and equality and the need to focus on supporting staff safety and well-being, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

·         The Co-op renovation, which included insight into our plan to pivot our previous remodel plan to a smaller, more focused store update.

·         The changing business environment and the Co-op’s financial outlook.

·         The Co-op’s work with and involvement in the Chico community.

Again, we thank you for attending our annual owner meeting and we hope that you continue to support our wonderful Co-op, as owners and as customers. And we, as a Board, are here for you and welcome any comments, questions, or suggestions to make the Co-op even better than it already is.

Dear Owners,

We hope that you and yours are healthy and safe during this trying time. This pandemic has affected us all, and we want to reassure you that we are here for you.

Our management and staff have gone above and beyond to keep our co-op safe and accessible. We, as a Board and as owners, are extremely grateful to our incredible management and staff for making the Co-op as safe as possible for you and for remaining diligent and committed to serving our community.

We also want to thank you for continuing to support our co-op. In a time when employment is uncertain for so many, we are happy and proud to be able to continue to offer our staff a fun, friendly, and safe place of work. Thank you!

The Co-op’s mission has always been to bring healthy, nutritious, sustainable food to our community. And at a time when your health, our health, everyone’s health is paramount, we continue to strive to serve our community and offer the highest quality foods available.

We, as the Co-op’s Board of Directors, continue to diligently monitor the health, performance, and future viability of the organization. Though the COVID-19 pandemic has cast a shadow on so many of our lives, we want to assure you that the future of our co-op is very bright, and our place in the community is secure. We continue to work closely with the Co-op’s general manager, Liza, to ensure the success and stability of the Co-op, now and for years to come. 

Our Board meetings, which are held on the last Wednesday of every month, are now taking place virtually and, as with all Co-op board meetings, are open to all owners.

Recently, we secured a long-term lease extension at our current location and we are planning a full redesign and remodel of the store. We will be funding the majority of this remodel with investments from our owners (you!). We plan to relaunch the investment campaign this fall. Thank you all for being part of our wonderful community and for continuing to support our (and your) co-op, staff, and local food producers. We wouldn’t be here without you.

Message from the Board!

In July, the Co-op’s Board of Directors hosted its orientation with consultant Todd Wallace from Columinate (a consulting cooperative). We have an orientation each year to introduce and review the Board’s role in the organization and the monitoring process used at the Co-op. The orientation day assists us in improving our collaborative skills both with each other and with Liza Tedesco, our General Manager.

 The Board of Directors will be stepping into a more communicative role with owners and the community by writing updates posted on the CNFC’s blog, monthly email “From the Board Room” & we might even, on occasion, take over the Chico Natural Foods Cooperative social media accounts,  Facebook and Instagram! Follow us on Facebook @Chico Natural Foods Cooperative & on Instagram @cnfcoop to keep apprised of our latest sales and outreach news.

 We’d like to thank Julie DeMaggio for her year of service on the CNFC Board of Directors. She has stepped down from her position on the Board. We will be appointing a director to fill the vacancy by October. The appointment will be a 7-month commitment, lasting until April 2020. BOD Election Results!

The 2019 BOD Election Results have been counted! Two sitting Directors, Laurie Niles and Seana Watkins, have been voted to additional three year terms. Two new Directors, Dara McKinley and Michael Lee, have been voted to the Board for one year terms.
