The Butcher Shop is a free theater festival under the stars, featuring locally-grown short plays interspersed with songs from Dave the Butcher, shadow plays, dances and tableaux.
Twenty-three years ago, The Butcher Shop was conceived as a gathering of Chico's homegrown theatrical and musical talent, performing in a local backyard. From these efforts the Blue Room Theater was born. Five years ago, most of the original players, now hailing from far-flung locales such as Los Angeles, New York, and Portland, united with fresh talent to produce the current Butcher Shop. More than 1400 spectators and participants were involved in 2014.
All of this occurs in an almond orchard at the edge of town.
